RICHARD EDE - actor

BIO:

Richard Ede (pronounced "eed" to rhyme with "tweed") has been performing professionally since 1995.

His performing career began as a humble Redcoat at one of the much-loved "Butlins" resorts in England, becoming a full-time member of the show-team. In 1999, he was chosen to play the dual role of "Stanley Ipkiss" and "The Mask" in a £1million stage version of the movie, directed by Tony Award winning U.S. director David Bell, and fully franchised by New Line Cinema.

After working in several musicals and comedies at the CragRats Theatre in the north of England, Richard left for sunnier climes, and his dream of incorporating his love of travel into his work became a reality. He was lucky enough to land roles in numerous family shows in Dubai, Oman and Thailand.

He continued his travels with a tour of the globe with the first of his Shakespearean roles in "Taming of the Shrew". The success of "Shrew" led to further work; first in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Hamlet", "Romeo and Juliet", "Othello", and "Much Ado about Nothing" (as well as various revivals in different roles) and won him two awards in Singapore (for "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet") and the great honour of being in the first western cast ever to perform Shakespeare in Vietnam. All these shows were directed by Paul Stebbings who was recently awarded an OBE for services to British theatre in Asia.

He has now performed to audiences in over 30 countries worldwide.

After touring the UK in "The 39 Steps" as Richard Hannay, he then took on a role made famous by Peter O'Toole - "Jack" in Peter Barnes' black comedy "The Ruling Class", followed by a tour of the Reduced Shakespeare Company's "Bible - abridged" which made BBC headlines when it was banned in Northern Ireland.

Richard is now mostly based in the UK and has featured in numerous commercials for Thatcher's Cider, Now TV, Kellogg's and others.
